About Me and my Therapy Practice

Hello, I am Jo.

Over the years working in the NHS as a nurse and midwife it has become clear to me that people really have a need to be listened to. Perhaps there is a feeling of not being heard or really understood.

In counselling the time is yours to be and say what you want with no fear of upsetting anyone.

As a qualified counsellor I am here to listen to you and you can have the reassurance that it goes no further.

Life can be unpredictable and difficult to cope with at times and I know how hard it can be to take that first step in to counselling. If you do decide to take that step with me, I promise you a warm welcome and no judgement.

In my view, we know what has happened in our own lives and only we know how we truly feel - so we are all experts of our own lives. Therefore, your views and feelings will be respected by me. I will support you in whatever it is that is troubling you.

I try to help you to find the answers to your difficulties. You are in control of how much you want to share. There is no pressure from me.

Sometimes I may share information that you may find helpful.

Types of therapy

  • I am a qualified person-centred therapist which means I work at your pace and I listen with empathy.
  • My experience has led me to believe the most important type of therapy is one where you are able to say what is actually bothering you, without fear of judgement. This is the type of therapy I offer.

How Can I Support You?

Session Information

First 15 min introductory chat

The first session is a free 15-minute chat either online or by phone and is an opportunity for you to get a feel for who I am and how I work.

If you want to, you can share why you are seeking counselling and I can describe how counselling might help you. But, there will not be a pressure from me. You may not know or feel you want to share what is going on for you in the introductory session.

Sometimes it can take a while to feel comfortable and able to say what feels wrong in your life, or what you want to change.

It is your choice how much or how little you say. After this session you can decide if you would like to continue counselling with me.

Further sessions - 50 minutes long

There is no minimum or maximum number of sessions. This is guided by you.

Session Fees

  • 15 min introductory chat - Free

  • Online = £50 (for 50 minute session)


  • Face-to-face therapy = £55 (for 50 minute session)

  • Telephone therapy = £50 (50 minute session)

  • Walk & Talk therapy = £55 (50 minute session)

Please contact me if you are unable to afford the session as I do offer concessions.

Payment is by bank transfer 24 hours before each session.

Online, Telephone & Face-to-Face Counselling

My online & telephone therapy sessions allow for great convenience and flexibility for those who cannot travel far distances, or have busy schedules.

My face-to-face sessions are based in Sawston, Cambridge in a small, confidential consulting room.

From Spring to Autumn 2026 I will offer 'walk and talk' sessions again.

During your time in counselling if you would like to change from one setting to another this is absolutely possible as long as it is arranged with at least 24hrs advance notice.

This Month’s Self-Care Tip

Sometimes I hear people talk about self-care as if it is a treat. However, it can really help us to maintain or create a sense of wellbeing. Each month I will offer you small self-care suggestions that can help you to reduce stress and build resilience.

These will be things you can try anywhere and they don't need to take up a lot of your time.

February — Self-Compassion to keep you warm


Winter can ask a lot of us.


  • Notice how you speak to yourself and gently introduce a little more kindness.


  • Perhaps you can take a few moments to slow your breathing.


Try gently lengthening the out-breath—it can help as it tells your nervous system that you are in a place of safety. It lowers your heart rate and blood pressure, and reduces stress hormones. It can help you to relax your muscles, supports digestion and helps with anxiety and sleep. Even a few minutes of slow, deep breaths can, noticeably help you to feel more calm.
